Accelerated Loss of Mains Change Programme

Accelerated Loss of Mains Change Programme

What is it?

The Loss of Mains changes have been designed to help prevent power outages by protecting generators from disturbances on the electricity network, and similarly, to protect the network from problems that may occur with a generator. They form a mandatory requirement for all grid-connected generators that comes into force on the 1st September 2022. Grants are available via the Accelerated Loss of Mains Change Programme, or ALoMCP, to help with the transition.

Why should I apply now?

The Loss of Mains changes need to be made by 1st September 2022, however the grants are available right now. Grants will only apply to generators that were connected in accordance with a connection procedure EREC G59, and funding is not guaranteed, so early application is advised by the ENA.

What do the changes mean for SolarEdge inverters?

With SolarEdge inverters, it's simply a case of upgrading the inverter to the latest firmware version. The changes can be made remotely by our support team*, or on-site (by the installer).

  • G83 - 16A inverters or below – no action needed.
  • SetApp inverters - no action needed as they already comply, including all inverters with compact technology (basic and extended versions).
  • G59 - Inverters over 16A, or a site that was approved for G59 connections may need a firmware update to comply. Please note: any site which has more than one SE3680 inverter will need to be upgraded.
  • Inverters installed before February 2018 (RoCoF changes) will need a firmware update to comply.
  • Non-SetApp inverters with a display will need a firmware update to comply.
  • Please DO NOT update the firmware on inverters connected to a Tesla Powerwall 1. Please contact us for help in this case.

If you need advice about updating firmware, please take a look at the knowledge base on our website by clicking on the 'Support' tab or contact us.

How do I apply for the grant?

You can apply via the ENA application portal. You will need to show this declaration, and screen shots of the inverter DSP version, before and after the upgrade to show the changes.
